Blast motion on SJ 17 fails on Senate floor along party lines
Once again Republicans in the Montana Senate voted against efforts to protect public lands and prevent the sale or transfer of federal lands.
Sen. Diane Sands of Missoula, joined by her Democratic colleagues, attempted to blast Senate Joint Resolution 17 onto the floor of the Senate on Thursday after it was tabled in committee on Wednesday along party lines. The blast motion failed to gain any further traction with Republicans on the Senate floor.
“Protecting our public lands shouldn’t be a partisan issue, but Republicans continue to stand in the way of protecting our public lands,” said Nancy Keenan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “It’s a well-known, well-established Montana value that public lands must remain in public hands.”
